Occupational Therapist

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital Albuquerque is a 87 bed acute medical rehabilitation hospital that offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services for individuals with physical limitations from an illness or injury. We also offer a full service home health care agency. We pride ourselves on having the latest, highly specialized technology to help each patient meet their rehabilitation goals. The Therapy Team leader assists the Director of Therapy Operations in day to day operations of the Occupational Therapy team. The position requires: • Effective supervisory skills along with good communication skills for interdepartmental relationships. • Competency in licensed discipline evaluation, assessment, care planning and treatment. • Program development and champion • Task delegation and supervision of therapist, therapy assistants and technicians. • Assisting with staffing, scheduling, orientation, training and communications to provide adequate coverage for patient treatments. • Maintaining open and on-going communication with hospital departments to ensure patient, staff, and hospital needs are met. • Providing patient care in licensed discipline 50% of work hours.

The Therapy Team Leader helps create an environment and culture that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission by meeting or exceeding its goals, conveying the hospital mission to all staff, holding staff accountable for performance, motivating staff to improve performance and being responsible for the operation of the department, measurement, assessment and continuous improvement of the department's performance. The Team Leader creates an environment and culture that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission by helping staff to improve their clinical skills, and overall performance, through staff development and mentoring. This position will support cultural diversity by ensuring that the delivery of quality, equitable and culturally competent patient-centered care is provided; promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity; and ensuring that cultural diversity and sensitivity training is part of new employee orientation on an on-going basis to meet the needs of the patient population served in the hospital.

Who will you treat? We are an acute rehabilitation hospital setting. Typically our therapist can expect to spend an average of 2-4 weeks with our patients treating a wide clinical caseload such as: stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, various neurological disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, amputation, joint replacement, fractures, multiple trauma, cardiac conditions, and pulmonary conditions. 80% of our patients are discharged directly home.

We use evidence-based practice guidelines to treat our patients. We utilize our clinical outcomes to asses and improve our treatment interventions and programs. We participate in a national outcomes database, which provides benchmarks and sophisticated outcome reports to help us continually analyze and improve our patient outcomes.

Rehab Technology You will use standard and advanced therapy technologies- depending on hospital location, some equipment used such as Auto Ambulators, Bioness, Interactive Metronome, Hand Mentor, SmartStep, Anodyne, Wii and CAPs may be available.

Helping you become a better therapist is critical to our success - You will be paired with mentors; attend in-house as well as external educational programs. The treatment team is made up of full time therapists, nurses, social workers, pharmacists and medical staff; a great way to learn beyond your own discipline.
